Need help with water damage restoration in Santa Ana? SERVPRO is the place to go, "Like it never even happened."

SERVPRO Brings Knowledge, Compassion, and Professionalism to Every Santa Ana Water Restoration Service

Non-weather water damage claims are the most common cause for homeowner insurance claims, followed closely by weather-related issues. South Santa Ana property owners should know the early warning signs of different types of water damage and what to do about it.

The cost of water damage in a Santa Ana property can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending on a few factors, such as

  • The type of water in the home
  • How much of the structure and contents received the effects
  • The time elapsed between the water damage event and the cleanup efforts

SERVPRO has put together an overview of the various types of incidents that should get professional water remediation for the best outcome.

Common Reasons for Water Damage

There are numerous possibilities for an incident requiring water mitigation to occur, such as appliance malfunctions, toilet backups, pipe bursts, broken hoses in washing machines and dishwashers, and supply line breaks. External water intrusion can come from foundation cracks or hydrostatic pressure, heavy rains, and leaky roofs. A mere trickle of water from a broken pipe can lead to costly repairs due to structural damages to walls, floors, and ceilings.

Categories of Water Have an Effect on the Outcome

The type of water in the home can determine the water damage restoration services needed. SERVPRO uses the same categorization recommended by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification). The three main types are as follows:

  • Category 1 is clean water and poses no threat to humans or pets, and usually is found with supply line breaks and sink overflows.
  • Category 2 water is also designated as gray water. This type of water is likely contaminated with microorganisms. SERVPRO sees this type of water with seepage and discharges from washing machines and dishwashers.
  • Category 3 is also called black water and is the most serious type of water damage The water is unsanitary and has the potential to contain bacteria, pathogens, and other harmful elements. SERVPRO safely mitigates this type of water during restoration services due to sewage backups, stream overflows and standing water over 48 hours old.

SERVPRO Techs Classify Water Damage During the Restoration Service

Water damage can also be classified according to drying time and physical damage. When assessing the damage and repair options, the class can make a difference. Much like Category 1 water, a Class 1 rating is also the least harmful. Class 2 usually means a large number of repairs may be needed to restore the home. Class 3 usually implies that the structure is saturated and will require extensive extraction, drying, and possibly controlled demolition. Class 4 is the most serious designation and usually means walls, floors, and other elements are greatly affected.

Water Restoration, Cleanup, and Mold Remediation in Santa Ana – Call SERVPRO

Water leaks from old plumbing in Santa Ana are a common occurrence for many homeowners. The plumbing joints age and begin leaking inside walls or ceilings and go unnoticed until the homeowner notices a soggy carpet, or perhaps they smell a strong, musty odor indicating a mold infestation. Occasionally a water-logged ceiling will collapse into the room below, creating a huge mess.

SERVPRO provides water damage restoration services to homeowners in the Santa Ana area. Our teams can help with cleanup, water removal, and restoration, including mold removal in your home. We are available 24/7 and respond within four hours of your call.

Water-logged ceilings pose a dangerous situation for residents. The ceiling gradually absorbs water, increasing in weight until the structure can no longer support the combined weight of the water and ceiling materials. Water, debris, and ceiling materials come crashing down, making a huge mess and soaking your contents. The floor joists and ceiling materials may be covered in mold if the water leak has been ongoing for a few days or longer.

Our SERVPRO team removes all debris and water and completes the controlled demolition of damaged materials and structures as needed. We create negative pressure areas to contain mold spores and remove all contaminated materials after bagging everything in place to avoid the distribution of the mold to other areas of the home.

Once the area is completely dried using high-capacity air movers and dehumidifiers, our SERVPRO building services team can assist with reconstructing and restoring your home as needed.

Our services offered by our SERVPRO team include:

  • Ceiling repairs from water damages
  • Basement water cleanup
  • Mold inspections, remediation, and removal

Water Extraction In Your Santa Ana Home

8/10/2022 (Permalink)

We are available 24/7, and We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Water Extraction In Santa Ana Often Involves Using Various Tools

If a pipe breaks inside a unit above yours inside your Santa Ana apartment complex, there is a chance that your dwelling will get flooded out. If a large amount of liquid H2O pours into your unit from your ceiling, you may get puddles on your floor and be forced to conduct water extraction. The process can sometimes be simple and require just the effort from you, the homeowner using a wet and dry vac.

However, in significant situations, it is wise to call in a professional restoration contractor such as SERVPRO. We can conduct water extraction in your Santa Ana apartment utilizing a wide array of industrially advanced tools and equipment. The first step of the mitigation process is always to remove the H2O while it is still in its liquid form. We can accomplish this by using either a portable extractor or a heavy-duty truck-mounted unit.

The portable machines work well when getting into tight spots of your building. Still, they are not as powerful and require an electricity source. Truck-mounted extractors have much more power and are operated using the vehicle’s power. When extracting moisture, our SERVPRO technicians can connect specialized tools to the extractor machines to help pull up as much liquid as possible.

For example, for initial extracting, we can attach a light wand that works well to remove moisture from glue-down carpet or from padding that is getting removed. For more saturated carpets, we can implement deep extraction tools to help pull moisture from thick carpets and upholstered items. Some of these tools are stationary and use the weight of the operator to compress the fabrics. Other self-propelled tools the operator rides on, and the machine uses the extra weight to compress the carpets while it drives around the affected floors.

If there is standing water present, we could use a variety of different types of submersible pumps. These pumps get dropped into the H2O and then pump it out of your structure and into one of your sewage drains.

If you ever notice water coming down from the ceiling in your apartment, call SERVPRO of Santa Ana South at (714) 558-7772 any time of the day. We are available 24/7, and We’re Faster for Any Size Disaster.

The Purpose of Air Movers for Santa Ana Water Damage

6/17/2022 (Permalink)

Effective drying will help to prevent any future mold infestations from starting. Contact SERVPRO for water damage remediation. We are standing by.

Water Damage Is Dried with Air Mover Units

Drying is one of the critical elements of any water restoration project, so the right tools and approaches must be used to complete the necessary evaporation and moisture removal techniques. Air movers play a significant role in surface water removal and drying approaches.

What Are Air Movers?

Air movers are effective machines in resolving water damage to Santa Ana homes and businesses. While many believe air movers are fans, this is not entirely accurate. Our SERVPRO team's units are likened more to high-velocity blowers capable of addressing surface moisture directly with focused blasts of dry air. Machines are typically one of three styles:

  • Centrifugal - blowers with focused blasts of warm, dry air pointed at specific wall portions
  • Axial - intended for broader air distribution across affected rooms of the house
  • Low-Profile - with flood cuts and other access to structural cavities, low-profile units infuse dry air into wall systems.

Removing Vapor Barriers

An advantage of well-placed centrifugal units is overcoming a cool air barrier that can form just above the surface of wet materials during evaporation. The presence of this barrier can slow effective drying, so the disruption and dissolving of the cool air layer above the surface are paramount.

Increasing the Production of Air Movers

Additional actions and environmental factors can help air movers and respective equipment operate more efficiently. Increasing air movers' production can relate to manipulating specific drying factors like temperature and humidity. Increasing the temperature makes evaporation faster when deploying sufficient dehumidifiers.

There are many parts to removing water from surfaces of wall assemblies, ceilings, and floors. Our SERVPRO of Santa Ana South | SERVPRO of Santa Ana North teams appreciate the finite timeline to get cleanup and restoration started right away. We are ready to mobilize to help when disasters strike. Call now at (714) 558-7772.

Water Extraction Methods for Your Santa Ana Home

There are various reasons you might have to deal with water problems in your Santa Ana home. Every now and again, storm systems, plumbing issues, and faulty appliances randomly occur after years of use. You never can tell when something like this may happen.

If you need to remove water from your Santa Ana area home, our professional staff can help. We have access to all of the tools, equipment, and resources necessary to provide you with the assistance you need. Our entire restoration staff works hard to help you get things back on track after an event occurs on your property.

SERVPRO’s certified technicians put many different types of water extraction equipment to work for you. Both truck-mounted and hand-held extraction units make removing water from upholstery, carpet, and other flooring options easier than you might expect. Extractors have three major components: the heater, pump, and vacuum system.

SERVPRO puts portable extractors to use when fitting into smaller locations or hidden areas in your home becomes necessary. They can hold anywhere from 5 to 12 gallons of cleaning solution and wastewater. With a vacuum lift capacity only slightly smaller than truck-mounted units, these portable extractors make quick work of heavily doused, hard-to-reach areas.

SERVPRO uses truck-mounted extractors with a much larger 100+ gallon tank to remove more significant amounts of standing water. Areas of your home, such as your basement or crawlspace, can accumulate over 2” of water. These massive machines and submersible pumps are critical to restoring your home faster and more efficiently.

Our technicians are a part of the local community and strive to deliver quality services you can trust. Our technicians respond to your call immediately, 24/7, and help you make quick, informed decisions that drastically change the outcome of your restoration.

What Water Damage Mitigation Steps Can Residents in Santa Ana Take to Reduce Damage?

Plumbing leaks are among the most common water damage situations homeowners experience in Santa Ana. While residents are at work or on vacation, a water line ruptures and pours hundreds of gallons of water into the home. The leaking water spreads to all areas of the house, inside walls, and to other floors if the main water line is not quickly shut off. Quick action by homeowners and SERVPRO can mitigate the damage caused by the leak.

SERVPRO provides water damage mitigation and repair services in Santa Ana and surrounding regions. Our experience has shown that the homeowner's contents and structure can be saved if water mitigation efforts are applied quickly. Removing pooling water, vacuuming water from cavities, and drying the home using air movers and dehumidifiers to rapidly lower humidity levels can prevent permanent damage to many porous materials.

While SERVPRO responds in less than four hours from your call, homeowners can begin mitigating the potential damage by:

  • Mopping and blotting excess water
  • Activate AC systems to add additional drying capacity
  • Remove colored materials from floors and fabrics to prevent color leaching
  • Remove loose contents from the floor and move valuable items to a dry area
  • Avoid using electrical devices of any kind in the area where water is present.

Many plumbing leaks occur while folks are away from home for extended periods. Water leak prevention steps in these situations also include:

  • Shut the main water valve controlling water to your house off while away
  • Have a neighbor check your home to make sure it is secure and dry
  • If irrigation is required, arrange for separate water feeds independent of the home's internal system

Where Can Homeowners Get Assistance with Water Removal in Santa Ana?

12/15/2021 (Permalink)

Luckily, SERVPRO has the devices to spot water leaks inside the walls of your Santa Ana home for a quick cleanup and restoration

They Can Hire SERVPRO to Perform Water Removal in their Santa Ana Homes

Water intrusion incidents are a common disaster that homeowners face. Stagnant water or moisture can lead to structural damage. Saving time is vital to mitigate the risk of secondary damage.

SERVPRO can perform water removal in your Santa Ana residence within a short time to prevent further damage to structures and contents. The water removal process usually involves insurance adjusters, water extraction, controlled demolition, and rebuilding of affected materials. The steps we can take to restore your home include:

  • Determining the scope of water damage and containing the affected areas.
  • Demolition and removal of affected materials.
  • Water removal and drying
  • Rebuilding

Determining the scope to water intrusion and containing affected areas

Water can spread and find its way into many surfaces, floors, walls, and other regions. Often, technicians cannot see it with their naked eyes. Our SERVPRO technicians can use infrared cameras to identify all the affected areas. These cameras display how water traveled throughout a structure and indicate moisture that may never have been discovered. Leaks can be sneaky and difficult to find.

Demolishing and removing affected materials

Depending on the severity of water damage, it may be necessary to demolish some materials like subfloor, drywall, and flooring from the affected area. This helps salvage the substructures and framing to prevent mold and bacterial infection.

Water removal and drying

Our SERVPRO water restoration technicians (WRT) can extract the standing water using wet/dry vacuums. These devices deal with liquid spills, dust, and dirt. Wet/dry vacuums typically use a two-bucket system, separating the solids from liquids in two different chambers. Most models also have a blower function that rapidly expels air to widen the device’s potential, including pushing/blowing debris into piles ready for disposal. We can dry your property using air moving and dehumidifying equipment.

Rebuilding

Our SERVPRO team has specialties in different niches of construction. We can repair any affected building materials to restore the affected areas to your satisfaction and specification.

When you need water removal services, call SERVPRO of Santa Ana South | SERVPRO of Santa Ana North at (714) 558-7772. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Which Firm Can Homeowners Hire to Perform Water Damage Restoration in Santa Ana?

12/11/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO can detect, remove water and repair the water damage to Santa Ana properties--from ceilings to basements

SERVPRO Is a Leading Water Damage Repair Company in Santa Ana

If you have had water damage in your home, a water damage repair project is necessary. From the moment you notice a water intrusion incident, speed is essential for resolving the issue to prevent secondary damage to the property. When you hire SERVPRO, we can inspect your home to determine the work needed and begin the cleanup process right away.

The work required to perform water damage restoration in affected Santa Ana homes depends on the amount of water that has escaped and the severity of the destruction. Our SERVPRO water restoration technicians (WRT) can use non-penetrating moisture detection devices to evaluate the destruction. These are small handheld tools that identify water damage around surfaces like flooring, trim, and drywall, among others.

Why moisture detection tools are vital

They are useful because they enable our technicians to determine where to concentrate our water removal efforts. At the end of the job, we inspect the area to ensure that all the moisture is gone. Non-penetrating moisture meters have electromagnetic sensors, which determine the location of the moisture that is leading to structural damage. They also tell how much moisture is present. They are effective for measuring moisture on a material’s surface. Our SERVPRO team can repair your home by doing the following:

  • Water extraction
  • Drying
  • Dehumidification
  • Odor removal

Removing any standing water is a vital stage in water damage repair. Our SERVPRO team performs this job using portable pumps. After removing the water, we dry out the affected area using equipment designed to circulate air through a home. When drying the property, our restoration team periodically assesses how the drying process takes place and adjusts the equipment if necessary.

After a water intrusion incident, SERVPRO of Santa Ana South | SERVPRO of Santa Ana North is ready to help you bring things back to normal. Call us any time at (714) 558-7772.

Water Damage Repair in Santa Ana is SERVPRO’s Top Priority

Removing excess water after a water leak can prevent a great deal of secondary damage in Santa Ana homes, especially if it is completed quickly before the water has a chance to penetrate porous wood products. Many kitchen cupboards are constructed from compressed wood particles with an overlay veneer. Once the compressed wood particles absorb moisture, they swell and become permanently damaged. Even plywood subfloors can swell and expand if exposed to water too long, causing cracks in tile floors.

SERVPRO provides water removal services to Santa Ana homes and surrounding areas. Our response time objective is to be at your home in less than four hours to help you manage water leak emergencies and minimize the damage. We can immediately begin vacuuming excess water and drying structural components before the water has a chance to cause permanent damage. For example, we use hardwood floor drying mats to remove excess water before the hardwood absorbs moisture and begins to buckle.

We also use specialized equipment to reach small spaces under cupboards to remove water and dry the area. If we can prevent moisture absorption, we can prevent further damage, reduce the recovery time after a leak and significantly reduce the water damage repair costs.

Our team of professionals at SERVPRO provides:

Note that our reconstruction services include in-house contractors that can bridge the time gap between water removal-drying and restoration of your home or business, reducing the time to recover from a water leak event.

Are Wall Assemblies in Santa Ana Homes Restorable After Water Damage?

8/10/2021 (Permalink)

Call our skilled technicians at SERVPRO for swift water removal and remediation efforts in your home.

Using Water Removal and Drying Techniques, We Can Protect Installed Materials in Santa Ana Homes.

Trapped water inside structural cavities requires fast and deliberate action from our team of restoration professionals. Because prolonged moisture exposure can lead to considerable material degradation, it is beneficial that our SERVPRO team lives up to the promise that We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Draining Out Trapped Water

Water can become trapped and caught in wall assemblies and their respective structural cavities after burst pipes. Because it takes time for water to leach through sensitive surface materials like painted drywall, this standing water and excessive moisture can be trapped for prolonged periods without action to drain and dry the damage, leaving water damage in your Santa Ana home.

Positive Pressure Systems Can Dry Structural Cavities

Positive pressure systems infuse warm blasts of air into drilled weep holes after draining completes to promote evaporation across an entire wall system simultaneously. By using these units in conjunction with desiccant dehumidifiers, we can collect displaced moisture and exhaust it outside the structure for a faster overall drying process.

What Materials Often Require Replacement?

As challenging as restoration and cleanup might be for flooded or water-damaged portions of a property, this situation is amplified when reconstruction and repairs are needed. With a general contractor license, we can help with water damage repairs to quickly manage the most common threats that exist after standing water concerns. Some of these include:

  • Reinstalling removed structural elements
  • Repairing damage to plumbing
  • Replacing flooring like carpet/hardwood

Water removal and other mitigative solutions after water damage can be critical to protecting homes and businesses. With so many ways that water damage events can threaten properties, our SERVPRO of Santa Ana South and SERVPRO of Santa Ana North team is available 24/7 to begin emergency services. Restoring Water Damage To Your Santa Ana Hardwood Floors

7/23/2021 (Permalink)

a leaking dishwasher may cause havoc in your home. Call SERVPRO for the water damage remediation services needed.

SERVPRO Can Restore Your Hardwood Floors After Water Damage

When water damages your Santa Ana house, you must get help to remove the water and dry the building out as soon as possible. If the water remains soaked into the building materials, they deteriorate quickly. Our technicians can help remove the water and dry the structure of your house before permanent damage happens.

You are proud of the hardwood floors in your Santa Ana home, but water damage threatens to ruin them. Water that overflows out of a sink or tub or drips from leaky pipes moves to the lowest part of a room or space. Floors absorb the moisture and can show severe damage if you do not act fast. We have ways to restore the damage if you call us immediately.

Equipment for Water Removal

Hardwood floors can recover from water damage better than softer wood because of their density. They do not absorb water easily, so SERVPRO employees have the chance to restore them if we are on the job quickly. Our crew first removes puddles of water with pumps or extractors. We then bring in air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers to begin the drying process.

SERVPRO technicians measure the moisture levels in the air and the wood with special probes. We use dehumidifiers to bring the air humidity down to 30 to 45 percent. This helps dry the wooden floors because the water in the wood can move into the air. The air movers aim warmer air at the wet wood, forcing the water to move into the dryer air as vapor. The dehumidifiers capture the water vapor, and the cycle continues.

We can help the drying process by using air movers both above and below the wooden flooring. Sometimes SERVPRO pulls up a few boards to let the warm air blow underneath. We also have drying mats that we place directly on the wet floor. The mats use warm air to pull the water in the floor through tubes like a straw. The mats help when a subfloor under the hardwood is also wet. If the water does not leave both floor levels, it can warp.

SERVPRO of Santa Ana South has the tools, products, and trained technicians to fix water damage problems in your home. Call (714) 558-7772 to schedule an inspection as soon as possible.

3 Steps for Handling a Flooded Basement

12/1/2020 (Permalink)

Flooded basement in Santa Ana, CA

Knowing What Steps To Take Before And After Help Arrives

As a Santa Ana, CA, homeowner, few events are probably as stressful as a flooded basement. This type of flooding is usually caused by powerful outdoor storms, some of which can be sudden and unexpected in their intensity. If you find yourself facing a basement full of water, there are a few steps you can take until your water damage crew arrives.

1. Avoid Contact With Standing Water
While your first reaction to a basement flood might be to wade through the water and collect items you want to salvage, this could be dangerous. Electrical outlets, wiring and other sources of power are often housed in the basement, which could expose you to the risk of electrocution. You may want to wait for a qualified electrician to let you know it is safe to start taking items from standing water.

2. Prevent Humid Conditions
Flooding causes standing water that can increase humidity in your basement and lead to rapid mold formation, especially on the walls. You can work to keep humidity low by using dehumidifiers and fans, as long as they can be employed safely. Open basement windows if you can reach them and try to keep air circulating as much as possible until your water mitigation team arrives.

3. Ask for Salvage Advice
Whether your basement flood was caused by violent storms or a burst pipe, your water damage and restoration team can likely offer you advice about which items can be set aside for salvage. Important papers can be frozen for later restoration, once pipe repair is complete, but items affected by black water, which originates from outdoor flooding, may have to be discarded because of the toxicity of this type of flood.
Basement flooding at your Santa Ana, CA, home can cause you considerable stress and upset, especially when the event is unexpected. However, knowing what steps to take before and after help arrives can help you handle the situation with greater confidence.

How To Make a Water Damage Insurance Claim

Steps To Follow When You File An Insurance Claim

From a massive flood to a small pipe burst, there are many ways a home can suffer water damage. When disaster strikes, a good insurance policy can be a big help. There are vital steps to follow when you file an insurance claim against your homeowner's policy in Santa Ana, CA.

Review and Report
If your damage was caused by a home invasion or any other type of crime, contact law enforcement first. Get a copy of the police report and make sure all involved officers are identified. Review your insurance policy to determine exactly what is expected from you when you file a claim. Contact your insurance provider and ask questions. Find out if your damage is covered under your policy, how long you have to file a claim, if your claim will exceed your deductible, how long it will take to process the claim, and if estimates are required for structural damage repairs.

Prepare Documents and Take Inventory
Fill out insurance claim forms from your insurer and return them promptly. Make a detailed list of all destroyed or damaged items. If you have receipts for any of the items, keep those with your list. Make copies of all information for your insurance adjuster and keep copies for your records. Take photographs or videos of any structural damage that requires immediate temporary repair. Make only the repairs that are necessary to keep your family safe.

Have an Insurance Adjuster Visit
Aside from things necessary to keep your family safe, all other repairs should wait until after an insurance adjuster visits. Show the adjuster all structural damage, including the temporary repairs. Show them pictures and videos of anything repaired prior to their visit and give them copies of everything. Show the adjuster all damaged items. Give them copies of your list of losses with receipts. Request authorization to contact a water damage restoration company to get started on the cleanup process.
The clearer the picture your insurance adjuster has of your losses, the more smoothly your insurance claim process will go.

Tips for Maintaining Pipes in Your Rental Home

9/5/2020 (Permalink)

Part of owning an older rental property can be dealing with delicate plumbing, such as polybutylene pipes

Part of owning an older rental property can be dealing with delicate plumbing, such as polybutylene pipes. If you don't take care of the piping, you may have to deal with some nasty side effects. Fortunately, you can avoid any clogging or other problems through preventative measures.

Use a Plumbing Lease Clause

A plumbing clause will cover the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry drains, garbage disposals, and toilets. It will limit your liability as a landlord to pipe issues caused by tree roots, mechanical failures, and other no-fault problems. Having a plumbing clause is an especially good idea if your pipes have older materials such as polybutylene. Here are some of the things you should mention to your tenets in the clause:

  • Avoid putting grease, stringy vegetables, starches, and hard objects in the garbage disposal
  • Clean the lint filters on the washer and dryer regularly
  • Remove hair from the shower and sink drains regularly
  • Only flush toilet paper down the toilet

Leave Some Tools
Providing a plunger will encourage tenets to take care of minor issues on their own. There are two types of plungers you should leave with your tenet. The first is the dome-shaped sink plunger, which can be used in the bathroom or kitchen. You should also leave a bell-shaped plunger for the toilets. Aside from obvious hygiene concerns, it is important to have these different plungers to make it easier for your tenets to unclog their drains on their own. This can decrease the risk of water damage from a clogged or burst pipe.
Specifying your tenets' responsibilities in a lease clause and providing appropriate tools is a great way to ensure that your tenet performs regular maintenance and can take care of small issues. This will protect your older polybutylene pipes and simplify your job as a landlord in Santa Ana, CA. Remember, if this maintenance is not performed by you or your tenets, you could face serious plumbing issues and need to hire water remediation professionals.

Three categories of water damage

Here Are The Three Categories of Water Damage

Water damage at your commercial property can be devastating. There are many possible causes such as a storm, flood, or broken pipe. As a Santa Ana, CA, business owner, it’s helpful to know the different categories of water damage in order to ensure proper cleanup, repair, and restoration. Here are the three categories of water damage.

1. Category One
Any type of water damage can lead to mold or bacteria growth. Of the three categories of water damage, category one contains the least number of contaminants. Category one damage refers to any source of clean water that has caused the damage. Examples include sink overflows or any appliance that malfunctions with water lines. Each situation is unique when water damage is involved. One of the best things you can do when you experience a water emergency is to contact a water restoration specialist. They can help you walk through the proper steps to clean and restore your business.

2. Category Two
The second category of water damage includes grey water. In comparison to clean water, grey water contains contaminants that could be harmful to humans if exposed to or consumed. Some examples of grey water in this category include toilet bowls, dishwashers, and washing machines. A broken supply line falls in this category because it’s connected to the toilet.

3. Category Three
This category is the most unsanitary because it deals with black water. Examples of black water are sewage, standing water, seawater, and water from rivers or streams. A restoration specialist will use the following steps to ensure proper cleanup:

  • Inspection
  • Water Removal
  • Drying
  • Sanitizing
  • Restoration

Even if your water damage is caused by clean water, it’s necessary to use these steps to verify that your property is clean, dry, and safe.

Ultimate Solution to Water Damage Remediation in Santa Ana

Condensation in your attic and the resulting water damage and possibility of mold is always lurking.  Contact SERVPRO right away.

Removing Water from Attic Flooring in Santa Ana Homes

Cooling Santa Ana homes throughout the better part of the year is a focal point of comfortable living in Orange County. Considering that the residential areas in and around the city are home to several million residents, effective space management for constructed homes is vital. As such, air conditioning units have often gotten installed in unfinished basements instead of attached to the exterior of the property on the ground floor.

With a condensation-generating appliance upstairs in the attic, the threat of water damage to Santa Ana homes is more probable than many property owners might believe. There are multiple reasons that a larger air conditioning unit could cause water damage to your house. Failure to recognize this problem quickly can allow leaking water to spread throughout the attic area and even into the floors below.

The most common reason that air conditioning units in the attic can begin to leak to the point of causing water damage in the house is a clogged condensate drain line. If this drain gets blocked with dirt, debris, or anything else, the water has nowhere to go but the floor surrounding the unit. While this is not an immediately devastating concern, steady and consistent use of the air conditioning unit continues to produce more water that leaks out onto the flooring.

Our SERVPRO team can arrive with sophisticated detection tools to help identify the moisture threats that exist and work on drying them out. While fixing the issues with the air conditioners are the top priority, we must utilize specialized tools like drying mats and the positive pressure cavity drying systems to pull water from the planks of any wood flooring before decay and degradation begin.

As challenging as it might initially be to identify a leak in your air conditioning unit that threatens structural elements in your home, our SERVPRO of Santa Ana South team can help. Our infrared imagery and probing tools can indicate the severity of the damage and work to both dry up the damage and repair wood supports, rafters, and plank affected by persistent moisture exposure. Give us a call today at (714) 558-7772.

SERVPRO Rapidly Restores Water Damaged Commercial Properties in the Santa Ana Area

Move out the wet contents, Dry the Santa Ana Unit, Return the dry, clean contents--That is the SERVPRO WAY!

Water Removal Santa Ana – Sprinkler Malfunction

Here is a scenario that our team can help for restoration. A business customer called for help with a problem in one of his commercial properties. The unit had recently been renovated and was scheduled to be ready for a new tenant in a week. One of the sprinklers was damaged during renovations. The sprinkler malfunctioned at night when no one was around. The next morning, there was water everywhere on the new carpeting and one wall. He was concerned the tenant might back out.

Our SERVPRO team from Santa Ana responded to this water removal call within hours. The owner explained the urgency of the problem. He requested that everything should be done to help him prepare his unit for the tenant. Our response was rapid. We had a team along with water extractors, air movers, and dehumidifiers at his premises that morning.

Minimal Damage
Fortunately, when SERVPRO arrived, the sprinkler had been turned off, and there was no furniture or contents in the unit. We were able to focus on removing the water from the glued-down carpet that had no underpad using a weighted extractor. One of our team members rides on the extractor adding weight to it, which squeezes the water out of the carpet leaving little work for the dehumidifiers.

The commercial grade carpet was brand new, and there was no danger of delamination or lifting from the concrete floor. The carpet would need to have been replaced if the carpet and backing had separated. Our client appreciated our efforts to salvage this new flooring material.

Wall Damage from Water Wicking
Only one wall was affected. The owner opted to remove all of the drywall, exposing the structure. We suggestged a flood cut, only cutting out about two feet from the floor to limit the rebuild and downtime. We were able to dry the exposed structure quickly. The wall was an interior wall without insulation. The owner felt that taking our approach would enable a faster recovery with a brand new section of wall installed.

Owner Met His Deadline
SERVPRO used air movers to blow air over the wet carpet, and dehumidifiers to remove the remaining moisture from the room. The combined effort of the client, the fast response of our SERVPRO team and contractors rebuilding one wall allowed the tenant to move in on schedule.

Our team can provide a total coordinated response to restore your home or business, "Like it never even happened."

Quick Tips to Save Time on Water Restoration in Santa Ana

Everyone wants to save money when they can, and when disasters strike your Santa Ana home, this frugality can be more critical than ever. One of the best methods to save on the cost of the restoration that your home needs when facing substantial water loss incidents is to do what you can safely to reduce the time that professional technicians spend returning your property to preloss condition. While we can help our customers with every aspect of restoration and recovery that their house needs, we also want to help keep residents informed about what they can do to help when they want.

Aspects like water removal in Santa Ana homes can often require specialized equipment that our SERVPRO professionals arrive with when they get dispatched to a damaged address. Our team members have multiple levels of extraction tools from handheld options that are ideal for smaller volumes of standing water to full-size extractor trucks that roll out with our Green Fleet. No matter the severity of the situation, we have the right tool for the job. There are ways that you can help while our team is still in route, however.

  • Shut Off the Water – One of the biggest issues with substantial loss incidents is when the water flow does not cease until our team members first arrive. With significant breaches in plumbing or fixtures, hundreds, or even thousands of gallons of water can spread through the affected areas of your property within this time. Find the shutoff valve for the damaged appliance or the entire household and stop the flow of water.
  • Gather Contents – Our SERVPRO team arrives with competent content management professionals that can assess the damage and potential risks to your belongings from the loss incident. By removing some of the valuable items and keepsakes from the damage path, you can prevent situations where possessions become unsalvageable.
  • Clear Out the Affected Areas - If you know where the bulk of the water damage restoration work has to occur, anticipate the need to bring multiple machines through your home to this affected point. Many of these recovery tools are large, which makes having a cleared path time saving for our technicians.

There are no ways to predict when water loss incidents can occur, but our SERVPRO of Santa Ana South can help you to restore these effects when they exist. Give us a call anytime at (714) 558-7772.

What Should You Do When Water Damages Your Santa Ana Residence

5/3/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Santa Ana South is always ready to go to make it "Like it never even happened."

Water Damage Restoration for Your Santa Ana Home

You’ve been out all day, only to come home to discover that a child left the water running in the upstairs bathtub, with it plugged. You now have water coming down through your living room ceiling, onto the carpet and furniture. With the extreme amount of damage that needs to be cleaned up in your Santa Ana home, you need to act quickly.

Water damage such as this in your Santa Ana residence is overwhelming, but the professionals at SERVPRO can still fix it up to look as if nothing ever happened. We have the training and tools needed to clean up the water and the damage. Plus we do so in a timely fashion so you and your family can get back to your everyday life.

When your upstairs bathroom floods, the first thing to do is shut the water off. If you concentrate on sopping the water up, the problem continues to grow. You can even close the fixture’s water supply valves or close the main water valve for your home.

In some restoration cases, SERVPRO staff can perform drying of your carpeting and padding in-place. The basic idea is to extract water from the carpet more efficiently and use more air movers and dehumidifiers. We do not need to roll back the carpet or remove the pad.

We do this when possible because it does have several advantages. This method first causes you and your family less disruption, and furniture also does not need to be moved out of the room.  Your carpeting incurs less damage when seams do not need cutting, and the carpet does not need reinstalling.  There is also less chance of delamination.

The surest way to prevent this type of damage in the future is to take preventive steps. The overflow drain in your bathtub often is forgotten, but these drains can clog up with debris over time. Pouring bleach down the drain from time to time can break up the clogs inside of them so that they can work properly.

SERVPRO of Santa Ana South can restore your home in Santa Ana or the surrounding areas after a significant water loss like this, but do not hesitate to call us. The water continues to do more damage the longer it sits, so contact us right away at (714) 558-7772, so we can help you out.

Wooden floor in a home that was destroyed because of elements such as moisture due to water damage.

How A Professional Packout Streamlines Water Removal In Santa Ana

Santa Ana property owners facing significant flooding from either weather-related causes or plumbing or appliance malfunctions need experts to help in removing the water. Getting the water out fast is the single most crucial step in restoring a property. Commercial-grade equipment and the skilled technicians to operate the tools are crucial, but one other procedure can make the process even more efficient.

Our professional pack out services make water removal in Santa Ana more likely to be successful. Moving furnishings, documents, and personal possessions to our production facility or a secure staging area elsewhere on your property is a proven remediation strategy. We follow a rigorous protocol to inventory the items and offer a broad range of water removal and recovery services to return not only the structure of your home but also your treasures and memories to preloss condition.

Insurance companies prefer to work with water damage restoration companies skilled in pack out procedures. SERVPRO uses a precise protocol to inventory the materials moved out of your home. We can use simple tagging and labeling and also scanning. As we work through the damage done by the water crisis, we also develop documentation that supports your claims (CCIS), limiting your out of pocket expenses. Clearing out these articles eases the job of the technicians at your home, making the pumping and extraction of water more straightforward and beneficial.

SERVPRO’s IICRC trained production technicians are thoroughly familiar with innovative and research-based methods to remove water from a vast array of damaged items. We set up drying chambers for furnishings, containing the space with barriers and even negative pressure air scrubbing equipment to prevent cross-contamination of any microbial activity encouraged by moisture. Limiting the drying space around individual articles or groups of items allows us to control the balance of air movement and temperature, applying dehumidification as needed to return them to previous function and appearance.

Some materials need specialized procedures for successful water removal. Documents and books respond well to lyophilization, a freeze-drying technique under vacuum pressure that vaporizes and removes moisture without again exposing the papers to damaging liquid water. Electronics require specific techniques to displace the moisture and ensure corrosion halts and is addressed. SERVPRO directs our technicians to dry exterior casings and then suggest a third-party specialist to work on the delicate interior components. We keep abreast of new opportunities in the industry through continuing education.

Planning and implementing pack outs before water removal efforts in your home is one of the core services of SERVPRO of Santa Ana South. Contact us at (714) 558-7772 as soon as possible after the water intrudes to increase the success of our efforts.

Restaurando El Daño Del Agua a Sus Pisos De Madera En Santa Ana

8/13/2018 (Permalink)

While these circumstances always remain a possibility with the appropriate conditions, internal water emergencies are often far more likely and frequent than any of the more detrimental disasters.

While water damage to your Santa Ana South home might come from several different sources, cleaning up this damage and restoring its effects is a similar process across the board. Many homeowners mistakenly believe that even moderate water emergencies can get taken care of with some conventional drying techniques and that the problem is in the past. Unfortunately, without properly cleaning up water damage and drying the area thoroughly, you could be allowing worsening damages to occur.

Fortunately, our SERVPRO technicians get trained to handle all manner of water emergencies and can ensure that the job gets done right. This restoration process begins with a thorough inspection of the immediate damage, as well as using thermal imagery to inspect the areas that are out of the immediate line of sight for persistent moisture, and a broader range of damage you could not initially tell was there.

Working quickly to dry the area and clean up the mess are both common practices of our SERVPRO professionals. Once the area has gotten sufficiently dried using air movers and dehumidification equipment, a better inspection can occur with the structural components and building materials of your home to ensure that they are as strong and stable as they should be. Overly damaged materials might require removal and reinstallation to complete the restoration process.

Water damage in your home might come from any number of potential sources, but overcoming the effects is rarely something that you should handle on your own. Even smaller-scale water damage can have severe effects on your home if the appropriate, thorough measures do not get taken to ensure the area is cleaned and dried adequately. Trust our SERVPRO Santa Ana South technicians to help you through every possible effect of water damage. You can reach us anything by calling (714)558-7772

What do you do when there is Water Damage to your Santa Ana home ?

1/24/2018 (Permalink)

There may be a number of causes of damage to your Santa Ana home or commercial property, but whatever the reason for the damage it needs to be dealt with quickly. The longer the problem is left, the harder and more expensive it can be to put right. SERVPRO has experts in water removal and damage restoration, and we are confident that we can help with the problems you are experiencing.

The most important thing to remember in cases of water damage in Santa Ana is that quick action is the key. SERVPRO can be contacted at any stage of the water removal and damage restoration process but for expedient results call when you first notice any excess water so that we can see the process through from start to finish. We can respond to your call quickly and can get started on assessing the extent of the damage straight away. We use tools such as moisture meters to help us find out exactly how much water we are dealing with and this allows us to plan our next steps accordingly. Of course, puddles of water can be suctioned up quickly as we search for hidden water and moisture.

We can remove all excess water through the use of water pumps. These can be either truck mounted or portable, depending on the location of your property and how much water there is to remove. When all traces of visible water have gone, then we use drying mats and air movers as well as a range of other techniques to ensure that there is no moisture left behind. Strategically placing dehumidifiers capture the remaining airborne moisture. This reduces the likelihood that any mold might develop and also ensures that all surfaces are ready for any restoration work to begin.

Our SERVPRO technicians are trained to IICRC Standards. This assures our customers that they are getting the very best and professional service carried out on their property.

You should call SERVPRO of  Santa Ana South as soon as you notice any signs of water damage in your property. We are available 24/7 at (714) 558-7772.
