SERVPRO Technicians Perform Fire and Smoke Damage Mitigation in Santa Ana Residences

There are different causes of house fires within South Santa Ana properties, and each one needs handling as a unique situation. A grease fire in a kitchen, with its high heat and rapid spreading, has the potential to do as much damage to a home as a fire started from an overheated outlet or unattended candle that was too close to the curtains.

SERVPRO technicians have extensive training in handling fire damage restoration in Santa Ana properties and know how to test the smoke damage left behind to determine the best cleaning methods. Even a fire contained in a single room in a home may affect the rest of the house with residues and odors.  For this reason, bringing in a professional team to perform the cleanup is a wise idea.

What Can Homeowners Do Before SERVPRO Arrives?

The waiting for the fire cleanup process can be a time to do some small preparations if the all-clear to enter the property has been given by the fire department. Actions homeowners can take include:

  • Limit movement within the property to avoid the spread of soot
  • Keep hands clean to avoid soiling walls or furnishings
  • Place clean towels or old sheets over rugs, upholstery, and areas where foot traffic occurs
  • If the electricity is off in the home, empty the freezer and fridge
  • Remove houseplants and gently wipe both sides of the leaves

Fire Damage Restoration Services Provided by SERVPRO

The technicians from SERVPRO immediately scope the property on arrival to determine the scale and scope of the fire damage within the home. The techs go through the house methodically to locate and separate items accordingly:

  • Items and building materials that have heat or soot damage are too severe for restoration through cleaning methods
  • Articles from the house that get taken to outside cleaning stations
  • Pieces that have restoration potential but need cleaning in-facility

Never a One-Size-Fits-All Solution for Fire Restoration

There are many different types of applications SERVPRO technicians rely upon to remove visible signs of fire damage and smoke odors. Upholstery and fabrics can often benefit from the use of foam-based cleaning agents. The IICRC certified FSRT team lift away dry smoke damage using special tools, and wet smoke with its smeary, greasy texture often requires solvent-based solutions to release its grip upon surfaces. Items were taken from inside the home for cleaning in outside cleaning stations typically undergo abrasive or immersion soot removal as needed.

Fire Odor Removal

The crucial final step during fire damage restoration is removing all traces of smoke odors from home. SERVPRO techs have different applications to neutralize odor-producing soot particulates depending on the level of scent and size of the treatment area.

SERVPRO of Santa Ana South | SERVPRO of Santa Ana North at (714) 558-7772 has technicians with years of comprehensive training and experience handling all types and sizes of fire and smoke damage in Santa Ana properties.

Fire Damage can Make Your Santa Ana Home a Sooty Mess

7/13/2022 (Permalink)

Soot can cause a tremendous amount of damage to your belongings and furniture.

Soot and Fire Damage Can Wreak Havoc on Your Santa Ana House

The smoke that spreads throughout a Santa Ana home when something catches on fire can create many problems for people. A fire in your home easily and quickly damages things by burning them, but soot from the smoke ends up on everything, even if it never burned.

You must clean up the soot when you have fire damage in your Santa Ana residence. It ends up everywhere and sticks to everything. Touching things in your home can leave your fingertips blackened with this substance. Some things that burn in a house can make soot challenging to remove. Washing with soap and water might make this stickier soot spread around instead of rinsing away down the drain.

SERVPRO technicians care about our area's families and know that cleaning and soot-free home is crucial to your children's healthy growth and development. We also understand that you want the grimy, greasy soot removed from your home's furnishings as soon as possible. We use special cleaning liquids that cut through the greasiness and lift it away from surfaces.

We can get your photo frames and the glass covering your family portraits beautiful quickly. Other items in your home, like cabinets and dressers, desks and tabletops, and the different figurines and other objects you collected, can hold much soot. This aspect of fire damage can seem to never end unless a professional service steps in to help.

The cleaning crews at SERVPRO work alongside our fire damage restoration workers and other expert technicians. We remove water from fire-fighting efforts, pull out and bag up charred and blackened things, clean soot off everywhere we find it, and then make sure that we put an end to the terrible smell caused by the fire.

Regardless of the room that the fire damage affects, thorough remediation services are key to being once again comfortable in your space. Call 24/7.

Steps For Dealing With Fire And Odor Damage In Santa Ana Homes

In the aftereffects of a fire, it is often necessary to replace the destroyed structures and contents and clean salvageable items. Smoke, soot, odor, and the chemicals and water that firefighters use could damage the items that remain. Immediate attention helps minimize destruction.

Even if the fire happened in a single room such as the living room, soot, smoke, and odors could have traveled all over the home, affecting drapes, upholstery, carpets, clothing and other possessions. To repair and recover your Santa Ana home after fire and odor damage, you can enlist the services of SERVPRO franchise professionals. We can clean the smoke and soot from floors, ceilings, walls, furniture, and clothing, and remove the smoky odor.

The smoke smell can linger for days or weeks, and the more time it has to seep into your carpets, furniture, draperies, and walls, the harder it is to remove. One thing we do to deodorize a home is removing items that have smoke odors like upholstered furniture, mattresses, box springs, and stuffed animals. We also remove any debris and charred items if you and your insurance adjuster approve the removal of such materials.

Our SERVPRO odor control technician (OCT) can use vacuum cleaners or dry chemical sponges to clean any surface containing soot residues. After cleaning, we perform air scrubbing or ventilation to eliminate odor molecules from indoor air. We usually combine multiple deodorization techniques to ensure successful neutralization of odors. Sometimes, we apply odor counteractant pellets or beads to the floor to control vapor odors. In other situations, our technicians use ultra-low volume foggers to disperse deodorants into the home.

After deodorizing a home, we assess if any odors remain and if so, we perform additional odor removal procedures. Cleaning household textiles thoroughly is also critical for eliminating smoke odors. We offer cloth and textile cleaning as part of our restoration process. We can take items such as clothing, draperies, and blankets with lingering smoke odors to our facility and clean them using our Esporta wash system.

If your house has fire and odor damage, SERVPRO of Santa Ana South can help you handle it. Our experts have the equipment and expertise to make the damage seem “Like it never even happened.” Call us today at (714) 558-7772 to remediate the destruction.

What Slows Fire Damage Restoration in Santa Ana Homes?

4/27/2022 (Permalink)

Call SERVPRO of Santa Ana South | SERVPRO of Santa Ana North at (714) 558-7772 for fast and efficient service.

Several Factors Can Impact Fire Damage Restoration in Santa Ana

When fires impact your home or business, the effects can rapidly overwhelm the structure. Even with the fast and reliable response of SERVPRO professionals, it is still likely that the loss will affect multiple areas of the house. However, certain elements and conditions can slow down this restoration and recovery process.

The Temperature of the Structure

One of the critical factors that help to ensure the most efficient cleanup and fire damage restoration in Santa Ana homes is the structure's temperature. Heat makes all chemical processes happen faster, from drying to cleaning. Cooler temperatures in the household after extinguishment can slow the effectiveness of cleaning efforts.

Water Damage

The presence and influence of water are other factors sure to slow the progress of cleaning a home after a fire loss. The extinguishment process is often enough to leave widespread water damage for restoration professionals to contend with, which can happen in many forms:

  • Standing water
  • Moist surfaces
  • Trapped water in cavities
  • Saturated flooring materials

Structural Obstacles

The condition of the structure is another consideration for responding technicians. Failures to address structural weaknesses or artificial barriers from bulk materials heaped throughout the property slow the response of SERVPRO professionals to the affected areas to set up mitigation equipment and tools.

Higher Restoration/Replacement Ratio

Hundreds of decisions get made when professionals work to restore a home after fire damages. Often, these choices weigh a difference between restoration costs versus replacement. With high-end, salvageable building materials, it is often more cost-efficient to recover these materials rather than discarding and replacing them – but this process takes longer in many scenarios.

After a fire, many look to the experience and fast response times of our SERVPRO of Santa Ana South | SERVPRO of Santa Ana North teams to help. We have a growing roster of FSRT-Certified technicians to help when you call (714) 558-7772.

Misuse Of Your Santa Ana Electrical System Can Lead to Fire Damages

3/8/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Says Do Not Overload Circuits--An Electrical Fire Can Burn Down Your Santa Ana Home

Need Help with a Fire Cleanup in Santa Ana? Call SERVPRO for Help

Most homeowners in the Santa Ana area are actively aware of the risks of fires occurring in their homes. While many precautions are taken, hazards persist in typical homes. One such consistent danger is that homeowners are not familiar with their electrical systems.

While many residents of the area might understand the use of electrical outlets in their home, a failure to appreciate the sensitive nature of this wiring can lead to strains on the wiring which can spark and cause disasters. To avoid these kinds of fire damages in your Santa Ana home, here are some things that you need to know about your electrical systems.

Too often, our SERVPRO technicians have encountered faulty wiring situations throughout the fire restoration work that we do for the area. Sometimes, this results from the homeowner seeking to do their electrical work. Other times, aging lines that needed replacing became overworked and ignited. Avoid an overload of the wiring with a simple inspection of the lines by a certified professional.

Many homeowners often disregard the warning from three-pronged devices and appliances and use them in two-pronged (ungrounded) outlets. While this might go without incident for some time, a slight break in the power or surge through this outlet can overload both the outlet itself and the appliance wired into it. Either or both of these sources could then ignite, leading to the need for fire restoration work by our SERVPRO professionals, along with a broken appliance.

No homeowner wants to contend with fire damages in their home, but many of these circumstances can get avoided with preventive measures and education about your electrical system. If you have already experienced an electrical fire in your home, give our SERVPRO of Santa Ana South technicians a call today at (714) 558-7772.

Hardest Materials to Clean in Santa Ana Homes After Soot Damage

3/8/2022 (Permalink)

Upholstered items are particularly susceptible to smoke and soot damage.

A Few Common Structural Elements Make Fire and Smoke Cleanup in Santa Ana a Challenge

Certain materials in your home are more sensitive to fire and smoke damage than others. Addressing these areas first can help minimize the need for a tear-out and reconstruction when fire restoration is underway. The process usually begins with the removal of fire debris like:

  • Soot
  • Smoke
  • Ash
  • Bulk materials
  • Wet or fire-damaged contents

Removing Soot Damage from Carpets

Fire and smoke cleanup in Santa Ana homes and businesses begins with addressing pressing concerns to soft materials and sensitive areas where soot and smoke residues can become destructive. Carpets are susceptible to staining and marring, so we provide thorough deep cleaning solutions like hot water extraction to remove soot solids when possible from these fibers.

Dry and Wet Smoke Damage on Drywall

The type of smoke damage can impact the necessary cleaning strategy. Wet smoke damage is among the more challenging to remove, as this requires a solvent to dissolve thick residues and pull these particles away from other underlying substrates. Even dry smoke on drywall can be a challenge, as this requires special equipment like our chemical sponge to remove soils from the surfaces to prevent any needed reconstruction ideally.

Fabrics and Upholstery Damage

There are many soft materials in your home that can be damaged by fire and smoke. From drapes along your windows to the material used in couches and chairs in living spaces, these are absorbent and highly sensitive. Our Upholstery & Fabric Cleaning (UFT)-Certified technicians can help clean and restore these materials after smoke damage like soot deposits or trapped odors.

Fires can produce many smoke solids and aerosolized destructive particles that adversely impact the home. Certain materials are more prone to this damage than others, so our SERVPRO of Santa Ana South team works to rapidly clean and restore these susceptible points as fast as possible. Give our professionals a call today at (714) 558-7772.

Our Experts Arrive Right Away To Restore Your Santa Ana Home After Fire Damage

Dealing with Fire Cleanup in Santa Ana

Even after a relatively minor appliance fire, the cleanup can be extensive. Removing damaged contents and cleaning soot-stained upholstery becomes a considerable task. On top of that, smoke and soot residue has a way of permeating throughout the home into every nook and cranny, making it virtually impossible to eradicate on your own.

If you find yourself experiencing lingering smoke odors during fire cleanup in your Santa Ana home, contact the SERVPRO fire restoration team for assistance. They investigate and remove the source of the smell while creating a long-term plan to eradicate it for good.

The first phase of controlling smoke odor is to contain it. SERVPRO technicians spray a chemical deodorizer such as the specially formulated Smoke Deodorizer #302, using a pump-up sprayer to distribute it onto the odor-causing material creating a barrier to slow down or stop the odor molecules from vaporizing into the air.

The second phase is vapor odor control to counteract the remaining uncontained vapors using either deodorant vapors products that come in either granular form or bead form. These odors counteract products, attacking the odor molecules as they escape into the air and are especially useful after fire damage.

The third phase consists of thermal fogging. Solvent-based deodorants disperse through the air using fogging equipment. These solvents attack smoke odors by replicating smoke to penetrate challenging-to-reach-places. Thermal fogging requires safety precautions and usually requires residents to leave home until fogging and ventilation are complete.

Eliminating Fire and Smoke Odors

Temperature and humidity levels within your home directly impact the deodorization of unwanted smells. Odor molecules can vaporize quickly, and high humidity levels make the odors dissolve, traveling easily to the nose. Days, weeks, or even months when the weather becomes warmer, it is possible for smoke odors to resurface, requiring further deodorization. Odors in the humid California summers tend to be stronger than the odors during the dryer winter months.

To effectively deodorize a structure, the SERVPRO team creates a customized plan for your specific situation using the three phases of smoke odor control while recognizing the possibility of odor resurfacing later due to temperature and humidity changes.Contact SERVPRO of Santa Ana South | SERVPRO of Santa Ana North for assistance anytime, 24/7, at (714) 558-7772.

Many Variables Determine How Challenging Restoration Can be After Fires in Santa Ana Properties.

When fire damage overwhelms your home or business, large areas of the property can succumb to smoke and fire damages. As leading restoration specialists for Orange County, we have leading fire mitigation tools and products to make fire and smoke damage "Like it never even happened."

What Type of Smoke Damage Exists?

Before fire and smoke cleanup in Santa Ana homes can begin, the type of residue and soil must be identified. Each type of smoke damage requires specific cleaning practices and products, so this inspection of the property can create a tailored restoration approach against:

  • Wet Smoke
  • Dry Smoke
  • Oil Furnace Puffback
  • Protein Residues

How Does Smoke Impact Nearby Surfaces?

Depending on the affected surfaces and the pressure behind air and heat movement, various surfaces can be damaged in several ways. High-pressure situations with extreme temperatures can force smoke into crevices, cracks, and against vertical surfaces. Lower-pressure and lower-heat fires produce a smoldering effect that generates wet smoke damage resting on horizontal content and building material surfaces.

Is the Underlying Surface Damaged?

With situations like wet smoke and prolonged residue exposures, the likelihood of permanent damage to sensitive materials is high. Unfinished wood, drywall, and high-porosity building materials are at the greatest risks of irreparable harm. Test cleaning can often indicate the condition of the underlying substrate and determine if completely cleaning the structural element is as cost-efficient and effective as removing and replacing it.

Fire damage presents a severe threat to properties and their occupants. As challenging as fire and smoke damage can be to remove, the fast response of our SERVPRO of Santa Ana South and SERVPRO of Santa Ana North team can improve the success of this venture. 3 Types of Smoke Alarms and How Often You Should Change Their Batteries

12/14/2020 (Permalink)

Keep your smoke alarm working correctly

What Type Of Alarm Do You Have

In the event of a fire in your Santa Ana, CA, home, you want your smoke alarm to be working correctly. This important device can alert you to a fire in time to prevent severe damage and keep your family safe. One way to ensure that it will do its job during an emergency is to maintain the batteries. How often these need to be changed depends on what type of alarm you have.

1. 9-Volt Battery-Powered Alarms
Traditionally, this is the kind of smoke detector you would find in your home. It uses a disposable battery that needs to be replaced on a regular basis. Usually these alarms need new batteries every six to 12 months, but they should be checked more often. It is best to test that the batteries are working at least once a month.

2. Lithium Battery-Powered Alarms
If your smoke alarm uses a lithium battery, then you do not need to worry about replacing it. These alarms should be tested as often as other types, but the battery is designed to last the life of the device. In most cases, it functions as intended for up to 10 years. After this time, you will need to replace the alarm completely.

3. Hardwired Alarms
A hardwired smoke alarm is connected to your home’s power system. Because it uses electricity, it does not necessarily need a battery to function. However, a fire may occur during a time that your home does not have power, so the alarm should also have a backup battery. The backup should be treated the same way as a traditional alarm, with battery replacements once or twice a year.
If your home suffers fire damage, a cleanup and restoration service can help with repairs, but in the ideal situation, the damage will be minimal. Keeping your alarm in working condition and changing batteries when necessary makes it more likely that this is the case.

How Do You Estimate Fire Damage?

11/8/2020 (Permalink)

Fire damage restoration in Santa Ana, CA

Your Commercial Property Deserves Your Attention After A fire

After sustaining a fire on your commercial property, you need to estimate the extent of the damage you have incurred so that the insurance process can begin. Doing this properly can be tricky, since an underestimate can cost you, while an overestimate can prove equally problematic. Fortunately, a fire restoration company estimates damage by accounting for several factors:

1. Lost Possessions
Items that are lost to fire damage should be accounted for when filing an insurance claim. Because objects and equipment are as equally valid parts of your business as the surfaces of your building, you should be compensated for them accordingly. Anything that has been damaged to the extent that it must be thrown away is considered a lost possession. A professional can help you to determine which items are salvageable and which are not.

2. Repairs
The cost of repairs necessitated by your commercial fire will likely make up the bulk of your service-related estimate. Depending on your situation, many costs, including that of hiring a restoration company to appraise losses, may be covered by your insurance. Other restoration activities, such as cleaning smoke damage or replacing burnt surfaces, are valid repairs to be compensated. A restoration professional keeps records of the costs of each service so that they can be easily reported later.

3. Current Value of the Property
The extent of the damage caused by an incident is only one part of the total estimated costs. Other factors, including the approximate value of the property and the location of the fire, go into determining what your overall claim is. Because these factors can influence your coverage, you should work with a professional to report your situation accurately.
Your Santa Ana, CA, commercial property deserves your attention after a fire. By working with an expert who can accurately estimate your damage, you can maximize your coverage and get your business back on track.

Minimize Lint to Avoid a Dryer Fire

10/14/2020 (Permalink)

The first step in avoiding a dryer fire is to remove lint from the screen before operating the dryer

Make Minimizing Lint a Priority

While there is nothing quite like freshly washed and dried clothes, not properly maintaining the equipment can lead to a lint fire in your Santa Ana, CA. If your dryer is located in the basement, a longer vent pipe is needed. Since it probably needs to twist and turn to work with your home, it increases the opportunity for lint to build up. Instead of dealing with a fire and needing a fire damage and restoration specialist to return your home to normal, make minimizing lint a priority.

Indoor Maintenance
The first step in avoiding a dryer fire is to remove lint from the screen before operating the dryer. Since these are easy to remove, it is recommended to give it a thorough cleaning once a month. Use a vacuum to remove lint and rinse with water until clean. While that can be an easy habit to form, remembering the vents need cleaned can be easily forgotten. They should be inspected and cleaned once a year. Below are some tips to make the process smooth and safe:

  • Ensure the dryer is unplugged.
  • Pull the dryer away from the wall to remove the exhaust hose.
  • Carefully loosen the o-ring clamps.
  • Dump out any lint and use a brush or vacuum to clean the interior.
  • Clean inside the area where the hose attaches.
  • This may require additional tools with a spinning brush to maximize lint removal.
  • Reassemble parts and do a test run to ensure no air is leaking out.

Outdoor Maintenance
Avoiding a lint fire also means remembering to clean the exterior dryer vent. Along with lint, other dirt and debris can accumulate, especially if the cover is broken, missing or not secured properly. Along with cleaning the outer vent, wash the cover to ensure proper ventilation.
Fire safety should also be a top priority. Small, preventive actions like cleaning and inspecting dryer vents can reduce the chances of a lint fire.

3 Ways to Prepare Your Business for a Fire

7/13/2020 (Permalink)

You should regularly conduct fire drills

Three Ways To Prevent A Business Fire

A business fire can be devastating in many ways including physically, financially, and emotionally. As a Santa Ana, CA, business owner, or manager, you’d like to think that fire damage is something you will never have to deal with. Unfortunately, fires are fairly common and it’s best to prepare for them rather than hope they just won’t happen. Here are three ways to prepare your company for a fire.

1. Fire Safety Plan and Drills
One of the best things you can do is make a fire safety plan. Most managers don’t have the time to be fully committed to safety; therefore, it’s wise to designate a fire safety team. This team should be in charge of creating a fire safety plan, understanding rules and regulations, training employees, and regularly conducting fire drills. Employees should know the escape route on each floor of the building. The fire safety team should also have contact with a fire restoration company should the need arise.

2. Fire Extinguisher Storage and Training
Fire preparation should include extensive training on fire extinguishers. Here are a few points to remember:

Fire extinguishers should be current (i.e., less than one-year-old)
Fire extinguishers should be easy to get to and mounted at a reasonable height
Employees should know the location of all fire extinguishers on site
A fire extinguisher should be placed within 75 feet of a hazardous area (e.g., kitchen)
Employees should be trained to properly use a fire extinguisher

3. Hazardous Materials Storage
A business fire can also be prevented by properly storing hazardous materials, flammable liquids, gas cylinders, propane, and combustibles. Material Safety Data sheets should also be available in the building. These sheets provide health and safety statistics for hazardous products. All employees should know where dangerous products are stored and how to keep themselves and others safe while using and disposing of them.
There are several ways to prevent a business fire. You can keep your business safe by establishing a fire safety team and following these tips to keep your employees and building safe from fire damage.

Protecting Your Company Against Fire Loss

Commercial Fire Damage in Santa Ana, CA

As the owner of a small business or commercial property, fire preparation is necessary. Sure, you want to protect the business from damage, but more importantly, you want to protect the people who make your business possible. While every fire restoration company in Santa Ana, CA will have a list of suggestions for making your company safer, consider four primary items.

  • Sprinkler systems
  • Extinguishes
  • Alarms
  • Evacuation plans

Sprinkler Systems

The key to avoiding significant fire damage is to stop the blaze before it gets out of control. While this is not always possible, a sprinkler system can help. However, keep in mind that you have choices when it comes to these systems. For example, if you have a large facility with multiple levels and rooms, you can choose a zoned system, which will only activate in areas with fire, keeping the rest of your building dry. You can also choose chemical methods that do not use water but instead work like fire extinguishers.

Extinguishers

A significant part of fire preparation is ensuring you have the right amount of fire extinguishers and that each is still useful. Extinguishers need inspections, just like other vital systems. Also, fire extinguishers have different classifications, so make sure you have the right type.

Alarms

While extinguishers and sprinklers are useful disaster preparation tools, an alarm system may be the best way to keep people safe. If you do not have an alarm system, then people at one end of the building may not know what is happening elsewhere, delaying evacuation times. Alarms can also be connected directly to emergency services, making response times more efficient.

Evacuation Plans

Evacuation plans are vital to the safety of your workers, customers and other individuals on site. Make sure that exit signs are visible and maps are posted. While fire preparation can sound overwhelming, you don't have to do it alone. Your local fire department or restoration service will likely happily help you out.

We Put The Flames Of Worry Out In Santa Ana After A Fire Damage Disaster

Fire Damage Restoration: Soot, Smoke and Odor Removal for your Santa Ana home

Soot and smoke residues are deposited throughout the home during a fire. These odorous particles are made up of carbon alongside any number of synthetic chemicals dependent on the type of material that combusting. Often, firefighting procedures involve the use of water which can set soot into fabrics, furnishings, or mattresses. A professional service is capable of removing this soiling using their expertise to not only restore but also to prevent permanent harm.

Residents that experience fire damage in Santa Ana can rely on us to provide honest, highly trained technicians for cleanup services. SERVPRO methodology involves conducting a thorough pre-test of materials and contents that allows us to tailor our approach to the exact conditions of each property. A pre-test can reveal what type of residues we are dealing with- wet, dry, or protein-based- which in turn allows us to provide an efficient cleaning operation.

A wet smoke usually occurs in situations where a synthetic material burns slowly for a significant period. The characteristics include heavy soiling that is odorous and can wear away finishes on surfaces, paintwork, or wallpaper. SERVPRO uses patented chemical cleaning agents, some of which are corrosive, to ensure that wet smoke is removed and spreading avoided. After eradicating smoke residues, we can begin the processes of refinishing and odor control.

The rule of deodorization is to recreate the method of distribution that causes the odor in the first place. In the case of fire damage, odor particles are spread through the smoke, which travels upwards into clean air pockets before dropping to the floor once temperatures cool. SERVPRO mimic this process using vaporized deodorant solvent. Our thermal fogging equipment fumigates the property, spreading deodorant in much the same way as the odor was deposited. Unlike household air freshener, vapor deodorizers use chemical pairing agents that bond with odors and neutralize them rather than merely masking the smell.

For a tailor-made service that takes into account the type of smoke and odor present in the property, contact SERVPRO of Santa Ana South at (714) 558-7772.

Fire Damage Safety and Cleanup for Your Santa Ana Home

No one in Santa Ana wants to believe that a fire can happen to them, but they can and do unfortunately happen to many families each year. The difference between a fire becoming a tragedy for your family or something you made it through safely depends on how you prepare and plan for an event like this. There is a low percentage of families that have practiced a fire escape plan but knowing some safety steps beforehand can keep your family safe.

Fire damage in your Santa Ana home of any size is a scary event which upheaves your life. Once the flames are out, you also have to deal with whatever fire damage was left behind. A professional remediation company can assist you in doing this. When you reach out to us at SERVPRO for help, you can rest assured you are getting an experienced company who works quickly and efficiently to get your home back to how it was before the fire damage.

The first thing you should do to prepare for a possible fire is to create a plan of escape and go over it with every single family member. Walk through your home, drawing up a plan and identifying two ways out of each room. If you have younger children, calmly explain to them the effects of a house fire and what to look for in case of an emergency. They can help you draw up an escape plan, and make sure all children in the home know how to call 911 and use it correctly.

Even small fires create smoke damage which SERVPRO technicians make sure to thoroughly clean. When it comes to windows, it not only means we need to clean the glass but also the framework and any hardware which is part of the construction of the window. To remove residues from glass without streaking, we use a low-alkaline glass cleaner. A spray bottle is used to apply the product, and then a squeegee is used to remove the smoke residues.

You also should identify all exits and which ones should be taken in case of a fire. All family members need to know where to exit, plus an alternative exit. Think about any obstacles that could be in the way such as furniture or bars on the windows.

A meeting place should also be planned. It is somewhere you and your family members can meet up right after you escape the home. Have a meeting place and an alternative one as well in case the main one is not safe. Some good places include the front sidewalk or a neighbor’s house.

SERVPRO of Santa Ana South understands a fire in your home in Santa Ana, or the surrounding areas is an unsettling event. We want to help you return to your normal life as soon as possible after a fire, so do not hesitate to call us at (714) 558-7772 as soon as the flames are extinguished.

How SERVPRO Cleans Different Kinds Of Fire Damage In Santa Ana

Fire leaves different kinds of coatings or soot on surfaces depending on what burned in your Santa Ana house. Each type of soot gets a different cleaning method. Our technicians check out all damage and match the best cleaning method to soiling. One fire site can need a variety of cleaning methods. We can handle it all.

Some soot is light and ashy in your Santa Ana home after fire damage. This kind of damage responds best to dry sponging, brushing, and often vacuuming. Using sprays or wiping this kind of damage can smear the soot and cause staining. Our crews expect this kind of damage when the fuel for the fire was quick burning items like papers.

When SERVPRO finds thick, sticky soot on surfaces that is a clue that the fire burned slowly in that area. Fabrics and electrical fires can produce slow-burning fires. The flames are almost invisible, producing a dark smoke that can spread throughout your home. Because the soot holds tightly to surfaces, we choose to use products that help break the bond. Wetting agents that loosen the soot spray on, and then we use a cloth to wipe the soot away. Sometimes we need to use a rough sponge or another tool that helps us scrape the sticky soot off a surface.

Kitchen fires make soot that coats items and surfaces with a thin, hard to remove film. The soot can be very bad smelling, too. The protein in a kitchen or grease fire is what makes the soot thin and tough to clean. We use cleaning products that dissolve the thin coating. Sponges with a scrubber can help break up the coating, especially if we used a cleaner with a grainy texture or a solvent.

Items with small parts or hard to reach areas like window shades might cleanup best after a fire in an immersion tub. We soak the items and sometimes use advanced solutions like ultrasonic treatments to loosen the soiling. Our production facility and employees can use specialized techniques on personal belongings we removed from the fire site.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

The workers and equipment at SERVPRO of Santa Ana South do a good job matching different kinds of soot to the best cleaning available. Call us at (714) 558-7772 to set up an appointment.

No Se Desanime Con El Daño de Fuego En Su Hogar - Llame a SERVPRO!

6/11/2020 (Permalink)

Empresa Local Con Recursos Nacionales

Los trabajadores y el equipo de SERVPRO en Santa Ana South hacen un buen trabajo combinando diferentes tipos de hollín con la mejor limpieza disponible. Llámenos al (714) 558-7772 para una cita.

Accurate Assessment and Fire Removal Restoration for Santa Ana Residents

Fire Removal Santa Ana
Sifting through debris after a property fire can be an emotional challenge for many residents. Our houses are often built up over several years with sentimental items like photographs or furniture and valuables creating the home. Fires can be devastating in respect of losing those items that make our house a home. But with modern technology, many aspects of soot or smoke soiling is restorable to a preloss condition. Being able to assess which items are salvageable and which are not accurately is a crucial aspect of home restoration after a fire.

Our services include fire removal for Santa Ana residents. This job involves taking and disposing of non-salvageable materials from the property at a designated waste facility. It may also include the removal of any residual staining from surfaces, walls, and ceilings. Usually, non-salvageable items are ones that show severe material damage. Items like curtains, fabrics, books, or papers frequently sustain too much harm to be restorable. However, denser items such as wood furnishings or metal fixtures can return in good condition following SERVPRO fire restoration.

Light fittings, drapery rods, metal balustrades, and other dense items can benefit from SERVPRO immersion cleaning. Immersion cleaning requires items that are resilient enough to submerge fully into a cleaning solution. Our ultrasonic machines resonate with high-frequency soundwaves into the immersion tanks. These soundwaves create millions of bubbles that burst against dense items creating both heat and pressure. The item inside the immersion tank is resilient enough to withstand heat and pressures, while thick set stains are not. SERVPRO immersion cleaning is possible both on and off-site for specific materials and fittings.

While we do our utmost to ensure that your home is returned to its preloss condition, we cannot guarantee it for all items. Porous textures tend to suffer significant harm and are often too damaged or fragile to restore. Our technicians can place any debris into double-sealed bags to transport out of the property. By sealing bags in the affected area, we can ensure that soots does not spread into previously unaffected areas of the home. We can take any materials with us at the end of the service for disposal.

Professional restorers can quickly and accurately assess salvageable or non-salvageable materials after a fire. Contact SERVPRO of Santa Ana South at (714) 558-7772 now.

Santa Ana Soot Cleanup

5/11/2018 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Santa Ana South will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.
